What is 3D Laser Lipolysis ?
3D laser lipolysis is a body shaping application that combines vaser or ultrasonic lipolysis and laser lipolysis uses power assisted devices for fat extraction.
What is the reason for developing 3D laser lipolysis?
Laser lipolysis has received FDA approval for body shaping (liposculpture) applications in 2006. I started using lasers in 2006. Laserlipolysis is based on the principle of using the laser beam both directly to penetrate the fat cell membrane and to tighten the skin by heating the loose connective tissue. After 2006, I have used laser lipolysis instead of classic liposuction in all fat extraction cases. I have followed technical developments and renewed the laser lipolysis devices a few times. I am currently using a 3rd generation Smartlipo laser lipolysis device and Sciton Prolipo Cellusmoth laser lipolysis devices.
Although the laser is effective in fat reduction and skin tightening, it does not facilitate fat extraction especially in people who exercise and have excessive connective tissue, who have gained and lost a lot of weight and then have excessive connective tissue with excessive skin tissue or those who have gel-like viscous fat. I experience the same difficulties I had with classical liposuction with this type of patient. Small-diameter cannulas for fat intake are not enough for these patients, fat extraction is often either inadequate or the cannula diameter has been enlarged and made the procedure as traumatic as classical liposuction.
In 2010, I added power-assisted devices to the fat intake of the laser lipolysis application. First I started using the lipomatic device and then the Microaire device. However, still everything was not exactly as I wanted. I was unable to execute homogenous fat extraction especially from patients with loose skin, who had gained and subsequently lost a lot of weight and patients with gel-like viscous fat tissue in the amount that I wanted to.
As a result of my search, I was introduced to the Vaser ultrasonic lipolysis device in 2013. This was a 3rd generation device and the impact of selective fat had been enhanced while the side effect of generating heat had been decreased. I was very happy that Vaser enabled fat extraction from challenging patients homogenously with non-traumatic cannulas in a way that was effective. In the meantime, the fact that I could use the extracted fat in areas that needed body shaping gave me an extra advantage. However, I noticed that when I used vaser alone, it could not tighten the skin of patients with loose or stretch marked skin and that I could do better skin tightening when using a laser. Therefore, I decided to combine vaser and laser techniques. Since 2014, I have been applying 3D Laserlipolysis in all body shaping applications that involved fat extraction.
Does 3D laserlipolysis require preliminary preparation?
No special preliminary treatment is necessary before treatment. However, information about the patient’s general health status such as whether he is taking blood thinners, whether he is allergic or whether he has chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiac condition, blood pressure is sought. Measures are taken as necessary.
How is 3D Laserlipolysis applied?
Local anesthesia, sedation (intravenous administration) or general anesthesia is administered depending on the number and width of areas to be treated for fat extraction. General anesthesia is not necessary for small area applications. All 3D laserlipolysis applications covering small areas can be carried out with sedation and local anesthesia. However, with general anesthesia, patient comfort is maximized and more effective shaping can be done with the elimination of the patient factor.
How many sessions 3D Laserlipolysis applications are needed?
The application of 3D laserlipolysis is usually a single session. However, if the number of areas to be treated and / or if the amount of fat is high, the procedure can be divided into zones and treated in several sessions.
How much fat is extracted with 3D laser lipolysis? Is there a limit?
3D Laserlipolysis is not a weight loss or slimming procedure for overweight patients. It is a body shaping application that targets the extraction of fat from patients who may be overweight and whose body contours are marred by this fat. As with all body shaping applications the goal of 3D laser lipolysis is to provide body contour by reducing fat accumulation which disrupt body shape. The goal is never to destroy all the fat cells. Therefore, the amount of fat to be extracted is determined by the amount of fat that disrupts the patient’s contour. If necessary, a few sessions can be carried out to complete the procedure.
What is the difference between 3D laser lipolysis and classical liposuction (fat extraction)?
In the classical liposuction procedure, an amount of liquid which varies with the technique is inserted into the relevant area after which high negative pressure is applied immediately after that, with a high negative pressure, fat is extracted cannulae (metal pipe) equipped with holes like a grate at the end. Therefore, classical liposuction is a more traumatic practice. Normally, it does not have any effect on the tightening of the skin, no effect incurs on the skin if the traumatic cannula is not used. A corset must be worn for at least 1 month after the procedure.
3D Laserlipolysis is a less invasive and effective method. The application reduce fat as well as tightens loose skin. Due to the fact that fat is emulsified (liquefied), a homogeneous fat intake is enabled with the design of round non- traumatic holes and finer cannulas dedicated for fat extraction. There is no need to wear a corset for a long time. It is enough to wear a corset for 10-15 days. Furthermore, it can be easily applied to all body areas including areas such as underarm, neck, upper abdomen, back, ankles, which are difficult to shape with classical liposuction methods.
Are the devices used in 3D laserlipolysis important?
Of course they are. Laserlipolysis received FDA approval in 2006, and technology has changed at least 3 times and new devices have been developed. The device used in 2006 has been inactive for some time. Furthermore, more affordable low quality devices which claim to do the same work have emerged in Asian countries like China. Clinics that have invested in such applications and followed technology closely have renewed their devices several times during this process. I use 3. Generation Smartlipo and Sciton Prolipo Cellusmooth devices, 3. Generation Vaser Pro device as an ultrasonic lipolysis device as well as Microaire, lipomatic and PowerX devices as power assisted suction devices. All of these devices are top quality devices among their peers.
What is the importance of laser wavelength used in laserlipolysis ?
A wide range of laser wavelengths are used in laserlipolysis. The first wavelength to receive FDA approval was 1064 nm. Other wavelengths were subsequently approved by FDA for laserlipolysis. Since 2014, I have preferred to use 1319 nm wavelength for skin tightening and cellulite reduction. The wavelength of 1319 nm effectively shortens the structures we call septa, especially between the skin and muscle membranes, and it manifests a better effect on superficial skin tightening than other wavelengths.
Does the surgeon applying the 3D Laserlipolysis matter?
Laserlipolysis and vaser are not applications that can be handled by a technician. The number of patients treated by the surgeon and the diversity of patient experience is also important in 3D laserlipolysis like in all surgery. It requires a certain amount of experience to enable the surgeon to decide how much fat to extract and leave in given areas of a patient type.
Will I be able to eat and drink as I want after 3D Laserlipolysis without gaining weight?
It is not possible to regain the fat that has been removed with the application of 3D Laserlipolysis. However, this does not mean that the fat cells left in the body cannot store fat. For this reason, as is the case with all methods, it is necessary to focus on healthy nutrition and avoid eating junk food after 3D laserlipolysis. The patient must give up his old eating habits which have caused him to gain weight. However, if the patient does not gain excess weight, he can maintain his body weight by watching his weight. However, if excess weight is gained, the shape of the body will deteriorate. If this is the case, the procedure needs to be repeated.
Is it applicable to men?
Yes. It is applicable to men. It is applicable to all persons regardless of sex over 15-16 years of age. It is especially preferred for male patients with gynecomastia (female type breast growth in men), belly and waistline fat.
When can the results be seen ?
The results are visible immediately after 3D Laserlipolysis. However, due to edema, the shape of the body is not its finest during the first month. After the first month the figure becomes more prominent as the edema decreases. The exact result will take 3-6 months depending on the size of the area and the amount of fat. During this period, we recommend endermological (Mantis) and tripolar radiofrequency (Legend) massage applications that provide lymphatic drainage, reduce edema and tighten skin in areas that have not been treated with laser lipolysis.
How long does the process of return to work and social life take?
The healing process is shorter compared to conventional liposuction done in the same area. Depending on the overall size of the application, the number of areas and the amount of fat, the patient can return to work or resume social life immediately or around 2-5 days. However, this is an average figure. It may take longer, albeit rarely, depending on the individual’s characteristics.
